This year, I wanted to do something special for my mom's birthday. Ideally I wanted to throw her a big party. Throwing big parties, however, is not really my skill set. So I settled on a small party with my brothers and their families and my family as the wild card surprise. With a February birthday it is hard to know if the weather will cooperate for travel.
I set up with Jeff and Dan to have a gathering on a Saturday at noon and we would cater in the food. We just did not tell her that the kids and I would be there. I watched the weather a lot that week and thankfully with the kids having a Friday off from school we were able to make a quick trip up and beat the snowy weather that came on Sunday.
We arrived around 8 pm and rang the doorbell. My mom was so surprised to see us. She was in a little bit of shock. But she was also happy to have visitors and excited about a few days together.
I don't have many pictures from the weekend, but it was fun. On Friday, Jeff and a couple of his kids were over for the day. We played a fun new game--Telestrations. The kids played outside. Teresa and her cousin did a couple of their skits. There was much laughter and many smiles.
On Saturday Jeff and his whole family came over as well as Dan and his family. Jeff was in charge of the food and Krista provided the cake. We had a little bit more time to play Telestrations, some outdoor play, another skit, some birthday presents. It really was a wonderful day and I think it made mom so happy--a great birthday gift.

Blowing out the candles. Broder and mom share a birthday, Krista just celebrated and Cal's is coming up. Together they got all the candles blown out!
