Christmas time was wonderful, happy, reflective, fast, sad, crazy, relaxing, memorable, slow going, and beautiful all wrapped up into one. There were the good moments, the stressful moments, the happy moments, the sad moments and I guess they all combine to make it good.
First off was family time and Christmas eve. Troy, Timothy and Teresa played a prelude for church this year and did a great job. We all got dressed up pretty nice (even if Timothy fought it a bit and wore a sweatshirt--at least it was red!) I love the music and candle light at the service. After a dinner of lasagna, it was movie time, which this year was cartoon time-- Mickey's Christmas Carol and Garfield's Christmas.
Christmas morning came and we had everyone up by around 7am. Stockings came first. Then a bit of a flop of breakfast. Swedish pancakes from a mix did not look so great, but tasted pretty good. Then on to opening our few gifts. Troy of course led the kids on a scavenger hunt for one last gift. It was a lovely morning and relaxing until I realized I had a lot to do to get us on the road by 12pm! I should not have left so much for Christmas morning.
It was a car trip to Susie's and arrival for dinner with Troy's uncle and nephew and family. This is the first year that they were not so obsessed with their presents yet to be opened. Electronics seemed to occupy their time instead. We had a lovely dinner and honored Judy's absence by lighting a candle and sharing memories.
It was eventually time for the kids to open up a couple of gifts to end the night. I wasn't feeling too well most of the day, but I made it through and enjoyed the family time.
The next afternoon it was over to my mom's house. Teresa got in some good cousin time with Fiona (even getting 2 sleepovers!) and we got to see everyone on Friday and Saturday. On Friday we celebrated Timothy's birthday a bit. We did a few games and he got gifts and even a little cake with candles.
The next day was "Christmas" with my family. There was an ice storm in the morning, but my brothers managed to make it over safely. We all helped out to make lunch happen and the kids opened gifts.
The rest of the afternoon was kept busy with a new pinball game, plays by Teresa and Fiona, and the kid's Christmas play. It was a fun day of family and together time. We closed out the night with the candle ceremony and sharing what we are thankful for.
The next day we hung out with mom, tried to go to church online and searched for the missing ipod. We also watched the Vikings game. Then it was back over to Susie's to spend the last few days of break.
It snowed all day Monday, but we did venture out to go bowling with Susie, Ari, Ronin, and Meghan. It was a pretty fun time. We also got a little play time outside in the snow. There has not been much snow around to play in.
