Teresa celebrated her 16th birthday while we were on vacation. She got to have a lot of say over what she wanted to do on her day. She chose a day in NYC. Before we took off, she opened a couple of gifts and her "Capy Birthday" card. Then it was onto a full day in the city.
We rode the train into Penn Station. It was about an hour ride. Our first stop of the morning was the Metropolitan Museum of art. it was kind of misty and rainy all day, so we took the subway to the museum. The Met is huge, but Teresa picked a few areas of interest to her--ancient Rome, Medevil, and Egyptian.
Our next stop was Liberty Bagels. Teresa had heard about this online and wanted to try it. Fun bagels with lots of cream cheese options. They even gave her a free Birthday bagel with birthday cake cream cheese.
Next on the agenda was some shopping in the Times Square area. We went in a variety of shops to browse. It was pretty misty at this point. I had ponchoes, but Troy bought an umbrella too to try to keep us a little dry. We had thought about going on a boat cruise, but the weather was not great. Instead Troy and Teresa went to The Museum of Broadway. Teresa had a lot of fun exploring the museum and seeing some neat things. Timothy and I relaxed in a Starbucks across the street.
Teresa's choice for dinner was Pret. It is a store she discovered in Europe. She loves their yogurt parfaits. After dinner we walked to a theater to see Hadestown. Troy got us some nice seats. The music was very good even if the story itself was a little sad.
There may have been a bit of running to catch the train back to Princeton, but we did make it. We stopped at Wawa in Princeton for some birthday night treats. She finished the day with a few more gifts. She made the most out of the day!
Teresa has had a few more celebrations as well. She celebrated with her Grandma, and with her cousin. We also celebrated as a family at home so she could have cake and open the gifts too big to pack on a vacation! And she is having a friend party too. I'd say it was a pretty good birthday for a lovely young woman!
