We had hoped to make it three nights, but the weather only let us stay for two. We arrived around dinner time on Friday and got to work setting up the tent. We enjoyed a relatively good dinner with the exception of burned biscuits, but Teresa can tell you that even moms make mistakes! After dinner we met up with the Popps (our neighbors who were also camping) for some fishing.
it was a bit hard getting to sleep the first night, but we all made it and enjoyed a lovely morning of playground time, exploring and funny shaped (but tasty) pancakes!
Then it was off to the state park for some hiking. The hike went really well. We tried a pretty steep rocky climb and the kids did awesome until Timothy hit some mental fatigue and did not want to go on. He got a little scared about going down again. We think he could have made it, but we turned around anyway.
Then we hit the beach. It was a nice sunny day and warm, but only warm enough for Timothy and Teresa to go in the water a little. Timothy enjoyed trying to catch minnows and burying himself in the sand. We had a nice picnic lunch.
Before dinner it was more fishing back at the campground. Teresa really got into it this time. The kids caught quite a handful of little fish. Lots of fun for little fishers!
Timothy was in on the action too. He got into throwing the fish back into the pond too. Teresa was not quite up for that. She just liked to reel them in!
The second night we settled in well and had a good sleep. I thought we might get another nice day, but shortly after we woke up, the rain began and never stopped. We managed to heat water for our oatmeal and got everything packed up in the rain. To extend the fun a bit, we made a stop in Verona to see Aunt Mary. We had lunch with her and stayed the afternoon. It was a great weekend of family fun!
